06_25_2014 Day Four BTC - Durango to Pagosa Springs

Day four...heading to Pagosa Springs. This is a 65 mile ride with rollers all the way yielding about 3,400 feet in elevation gained.

There were definitely some climbs that made themselves known. It got hot by mid-morning.

We had relatively minor winds that day and we were heading east which is better.
Here is Dave as we finished packing up camp in Durango.
A fun photo...shadows of the bikes and me, plus Dave in real life.
Off we went...
Some scenery
The scenery on this leg was amazing! I want to move here. :)
Serenity.
NOT serenity!  The aids stations were not Dave's favorite. Still, he fought his way in for some (too many) danishes.
One view passed along this route was Chimney Rock. It's a beautiful formation. This restaurant, where the aid station was located was named for the formation.
More fun volunteers feeding the starving.
Aid station scene
The mighty Chimney Rock!
There was road construction along this leg. Twice we were stopped with cars for one way traffic. Then the construction workers would let the cars go, then us. It meant no traffic for a short while which was nice. While waiting on the pavement however, we were all broiling like lobster tails.

Nice photo bombs in this photo Dave took!
I arrived in Pagosa Springs to find Dave had selected an amazing tent site - under the bleachers! Not only was this away from the masses, it had shade and something we all covet on these trips....(shown below)...
A more distant view of the bleacher dwellers...
The masses crammed in across the fence roasting in the sun.
We had power! And it was just outside the tent. You can tell who has done these tours before - they brought extension cords. We were able to charge up our phones and Garmins using only one plug.
Inside we hung out until after dinner. Dave's footwear was getting more and more stylish as the tour went on. :)

We ate dinner with a couple we met earlier in the tour: Parry and Bob M.  They live in Crested Butte. She was riding and he was following along. He would mountain bike during the day and set up tent while she was on the road. Really fun people! Happy we met them.

Tomorrow is a rest day in Pagosa Springs. I think everyone was ready for it. Plus, the last two days on to tour were for real.
