08_02_2010 The Two Daves Climb in Rock Creek

Years ago, Dave worked on a filming job with Dave Lane in Joshua Tree. After work, they soloed, climbed and enjoyed each others company. Fast forward to this trip. Dave decided to see if Dave L was around - he heard he lived in the Mammoth Lakes area. Perhaps he'd want to climb.

After a little investigative work on Supertopo, the two of them got in touch. Turns out Lane lives 1/2 from our secret camp spot - we have been driving past his home ever day we leave or return to camp! This made making climbing plans convenient.

The two decided to head up the drainage to climb in Rock Creek. I stayed behind to goof off at the camp site. I originally planned to ride, but thought I'd go after getting blogs up. Turns out that took most of the day!

It appears a good time was had and many routes were climbed. Dave L really enjoyed Dave's new birthday belay glasses as an extra bonus. Check out the video below as Dave L was introduced to these glasses.

After they were done, Dave L came to the trailer and we all enjoyed happy hour and watching the sun set. Then he took off to get home to his wife and son. Moments after he left, he called with the strangest message...Just outside our camp was a man on a mountain bike with hundreds of sheep.

Uh oh. Had we over-served him? Had the heat of the day affected his brain? Nah! Turns out we did have, just as he said, a man with 1,000 head of sheep (according to him)only 100 yards from camp. Bizarre. I guess one never knows what they'll see out here!
