Southern Arizona Birding! Part 1

Dave and I headed to Southern Arizona again for a long weekend birding during Spring migration. We again stayed at the Ramsey Canyon Bed & Breakfast. Awesome place! As usual, Dave got many beautiful photos of many of the birds we saw. Te first bird pictured here is a female Ladder Back Woodpecker.

Next up, is a Gila Woodpecker. He's showing off a very little part of his tongue.

Here is a cool perspective of a White Breasted Nuthatch.

The ever silly looking Gambel's Quail.

A male Northern Cardinal. Many who look at this blog may wonder why we put up a photo of such a "common" bird. Check out your bird guide and note that Northern cardinals are not found in a huge portion of the United States. We don't get them in Boulder although we have a single male that has been here a year. He's a stray, but he's happy here.

Another nice photo of a Ladderback Woodpecker. This bird is a male.

A very pretty male Gila Woodpecker poses for a portrait.

I really love this photo of a male Western Tanager. Doesn't it look Audubon-esque?

A gorgeous male Western Tanager is chowing on some gnarly green insect.  This photo to me almost looks fake, but this is as we saw it. Amazing.

And finally,  this is an Acorn Woodpecker  at his nesting hole.  This is just the first of four blog entries of the trip. Enjoy!!
