2012 Pro Cycling Challenge Tour comes through Boulder

In the summer, the US Pro-Cycling Challenge came through Boulder. I'd been at home working and had it streaming live in the background of my computer. In no time, I was totally hooked watching these ridiculously fit men scream up and down the mountains of Colorado. It was especially fun as we'd been to most of the places and ridden several ourselves.  So I told Dave I wanted to watch them on Saturday when they came through town.

We hopped on our bikes and rode the few blocks to Broadway to see them enter town. Already I could see that Dave hooked. It was just so dang exciting!!
So we raced home and watched them online a few minutes, turned around and headed up Flagstaff Mtn where the race would end. I'd secured some wristbands earlier in the week that allowed us entry. yay.
There were more people than we'd ever seen riding, walking and running up Flagstaff. It was nuts!
We went as high as we could (crowds were so thick) and found a place on the side of the road. By the time the riders came up, only about 2 feet of pavement was open.
It was total insanity on Flagstaff. People were dressed up, dancing and having a grand time!

Finally, we saw the helicopter that  was broadcasting the race winding its way through Boulder. Then we looked down the mountain and saw them coming! Many of the riders were laughing and the nuttiness of it all. People driving team cars looked terrified (don't blame them).
Those going uphill had to endure this beating tunnel! Ha!  All in all, it was one of the most exciting times in Boulder. More photos below -  Sadly, the tour won't be coming through Boulder next year -big mistake we think.  Can't wait for it to return!
