June_21 to 27_2015 - Bicycle Tour of Colorado, Day II, Leadville to Carbondale, CO

On our second day - but first day of riding -  we rode to Carbondale which is a 88 mile day.
This ride took us over Independence Pass.

As is a common routine, I took off while Dave completed the tent site tear-down. He's much faster so this makes a lot of sense. Fun also to see him during the day as he eventually catches up to me.
More beautiful scenery.
And more....

Dave has stopped at one of the rest stations.
More riding.

At the summit of Independence Pass - 12,095' in elevation. I think it must have snow here year around!

Selfie!

Bikie!

The pass sign. The BTC this year crossed the Continental Divide four times.

Once in Carbondale, we set up a nice campsite!
It was however, the scene of the Monkey Flag Incident (MFI).  Some guys (with beer) camped near us took our monkey flag while we were eating.
There camp - shown here flew some pirate flags. It was hard to ascertain if this stolen flag incident was a act of fun or aggression. I didn't care! I took our flag back and kept it in the tent. I heard these guys when they returned and were SHOCKED to learn (as they said) "Dude....the monkey flag is GONE."

Yes it is. I kept a close eye on these pirates the rest of the trip.

Tomorrow takes us to Hotchkiss - this is 65 mile day of deadly driving on a highway with road ragers.
