06_05_2010 A morning at Pawnee National Grasslands
In stark contrast to central and western Colorado, the Pawnee National Grasslands in the northeast part of the state offer thousands of acres of rolling grasslands and few people, but lots of birds and critters! We spent a morning here in early June and saw some fun stuff; Burrowing Owl, Swainson's Hawk, Great Horned Owl, Lark Bunting, Antelope, Meadowlark, Horned Lark, Western Kingbird and Loggerhead Shrike. Pawnee Grasslands?! Next thing you know, you'll be heading to Nebraska for the Sandhill Crane migration. Then the prairie chickens in Wray... Awesome photos! The horned lark is too cute!
The Horned Lark tickles me with that posture and expression!
Awesome pics! But be careful - soon you'll be sitting on your butt in a blind for hours waiting for the prairie chickens!
No aerobic points there!
Also, it's nice to know the burrowing owls are hanging tough out there!
