07_05_2014 Mom, Zoe and Hannah come to Boulder for a Vacation - St. Juliens for tea, magnet making, and trip book decorations

The pickup at the Denver airport went well.  We all hopped in the car and headed back to the house. Once here, we planned meals for the week, got our "bags" with goodies in it (trip diary, box to take home treasures in, new fancy pens), and headed to the grocery store.

Once we got the groceries for the week put away, we de-grubbied ourselves and headed to the St. Julien for Afternoon Tea.  Mom and I had done tea here before, but the girls had not.

Here is Zoe checking out the menu.

Here is Hannah waiting on the tea service to arrive.

Oops! Sorry about the  marginal photo of Hannah...we all get those sometimes.

I wanted to share a photo of the tea service. the bottom had egg salad and tomato hummus sandwiches. There was also some delicious salmon bites and come chicken salad yums on the opposite side.

The second tier had some canolis, cheesecakes (best on the tier), some amazingly tasteless chocolates somethings, and the most incredibly sugary red/white/blue cookies. The cookies were inedible in my opinion.

The top tier was a hit.  It had two types of scones. One had berries, the second were ginger. Good stuff.
After tea, we waddled, er...walked over to Pearl Street Mall to look around. It was a day of art festivals so was pretty crowded. I was also surprised some street performers were out given it wasn't too late. Happy they were as the girls hoped to see some.  This guy was really entertaining. He juggled flaming batons for a while and ultimately showed off some amazing strength by performing an act on the

POLE OF DOOM.

Here he is with the pole. He had four guys hold guy lines to keep it upright. Oops. I totally didn't get photos of him performing. Suffice it to say he was incredibly strong and was an excellent performer.  His act included a lot of humor. Great all around.
Looking down a crowded Pearl Street. Lots of vendors. Lots of people (though few managed to get in this photo).  Fun time.
We then went home and started working on a craft: refrigerator magnets. (Or as they later become, wall magnets).
We had glitter. We had E6000 glue. We had scissors. We had paper. And we had photos. We were ready to go.
Pente watched from the safety of a bag.
Some of the magnets took multiple steps (with drying in between steps). We put them away then got busy on our diary books. Each day, we spent time jotting done what we'd done, drawing photos, affixing stickers...whatever was needed to keep a document of what we'd been doing. Like last year, the final evening included presentations with Q & A sessions. Unlike last year, we had a human judge (as good a cat as Pente is, she sucks at judging stuff).  Our judge this year was Dave!  He wasn't around today -  he was in Tennessee helping family.  He would arrive home tomorrow.

The day ended and we got to bed. We had a big day planned the following day:  Prepping for Dave's welcome home party and a tour of Celestial Seasonings.
