While Dave posted up lots of cool photos from his recent solo trip out west, he didn't include any birds. What the? So, here they are since he got several really lovely shots. First photo is of a Hairy Woodpecker excavating his nesting area. Very cool!
Dave grabbed a photo of this little guy. A difficult ID that we spent some time with before posting it to a forum we frequent. Though it's a forum of climbers, there are some very accomplished birders as well as professional ornithologists. Happy to report that it is indeed a Lucy's Warbler! And I'm psyched that I figured it out (and happy to have that verified by the ornithologist). Super big treat!
Here are a couple of shots of the beautiful Hairy Woodpecker.
Cool how he has a fair amount of brown on his wings.
A cute little Wren sits still long enough for Dave to grab a photo.
And the Verdin. Still haven't managed to actually see one of these birds. This was Dave's first and he got a photo of it in the backyard of Dick Dower's in Vegas. Cool!
Another photo of the spectacular Summer Tanager who was hanging out at the Zion campground. We enjoyed seeing them last year. Happy they were there for Dave's visit too.
Here is another shot of the Lucy's Warbler. When trying to ID it, I wasn't using this photo. Once we saw it, it was clear it was a Lucy's. Dave got every diagnostic marking on this bird. Cool!
Though common, the Yellow-Rumped Warbler (aka Butter Butts) are a treat every we see one.
