We hopped in the truck and hauled the trailer to somewhere in Utah where we spent the night. The next morning, we finished the trip and got to Vegas with little hassle. We really hoped to get an RV spot at the 13 mile campground near Red Rocks. There are only 5 spots, and they cannot be reserved. If we couldn’t get something here, we were going to have to park at a Walmart, or impose on a friend. We approached the campground with fingers crossed – only one site was open and it was ours! Yay!
We set up camp, then headed into Red Rocks to do a little climbing. Our first route was to the left of Chicken Eruptus. I think it was some 5.9 or something. It was fine though the crux move was not that fun imo. Next we did Chicken Eruptus. This is a 5.10 route that was allegedly named because the first person to do the route barfed up their chicken meal after they finished. It was quite a fun route on some nice dark Red Rocks patina.
We headed back to camp to enjoy the evening. It started getting windy this evening. Windy enough to rock the trailer around and make it difficult to sleep! Little did we know that windy days and evenings would be the theme of this trip.
