7/12/08 - Leisure Baron Living - Aspen Day 2

We woke up leisurely and had a yummy Malt o Meal breakfast. What is that stuff anyway? Tasty but I'm not sure it's not small rubber pellets or something. We gathered our climbing gear and hiked down to Bob's campsite to see what was up. The group headed in three different directions. Those with small children climbed in an area near our campsite. Everyone else (except us) went to Phat City Wall. We hiked to Sunset Wall.

Dave wasn't feeling particularly good so we didn't get a lot of climbing in. We did a black-streaked route 10a classic route. It was a very nice small crimpy balancy route. Very cool, but it seemed more than 10b to both of us. Still, it was good.

Next we climbed an .11b route to the right aptly named Predator. The guidebook said it had five bolts. It had at least eight bolts (not visible from the ground). That made for some fun lead climbing since Dave who lead it didn't take enough draws! The climb was good, but deceptively difficult. We were worked after it!

We wandered over to Phat City to see what the crew was up to. By then, they were dispersing to other walls. We hopped on a climb called "Sweaty Betty". What a pile! I believe it was rated a 10d. It was crumbly awkward and super hero climbing compared to the 10 we'd just done at Sunset. We both felt that it was the worst climb we've done in a long time. Phooey! Here is a photo of me cleaning this dawg of a route.

We walked around the corner to a pretty 11a called Treeline. This climb too had lots of little crimps - just like I love! It was an awesome climb. In general, I can't see anyone making this climbing into destination climbing, still it was fun and the locale was beautiful.

After the fourth climb (where did time go?), it was getting late and the mosquitoes had discovered our location. We hiked back to camp swatting the little devils off of us constantly. We bolted into the camper and Dave, who was still feeling puny, fell asleep instantly on the couch. I gave him some Guacamole and chips which he ate in his half-awake, half-asleep mode. Then I made a nice dinner of spinach and cheese ravioli. He ate that too and promptly fell asleep at 8 pm.

We hoped a good night of sleep would help him feel better.
