07_08 to 09_2014 To Carter Lake for some camping

We got up, packed up and headed to Carter Lake for an overnight camping trip.  Zoe rode and navigated for Dave in the pop-up and Hannah and mom road with me in the Matrix.

The girls had first choice in where they wanted to sleep: pop up, Matrix or tent. They chose the tent.

We arrived and they began setting up their quarters.
The got it put up and did a nice job.
Here is a view of all the sleeping quarters. Mom also got a choice to sleep in the pop up or the car. She chose the car.
There were several stakes that needed to be hammered down.
No problem!
Once the tent was set up, we got their sleeping pads (Dreamrests with memory foam of course) inflate and they tried out their new room. They liked it.
Zoe
Pente was being uncharacteristically chicken and decided she'd rather lounge in the camper versus roll in the dirt. Unusual.
We headed over to the marina and watched hummingbirds at the feeder.

The forecast was marginal and it was certain we'd be rained on. That never happened. It didn't even look like it'd rain! We lucked out.

From the marina, we drove to the swimming beach.  Mom and I sat in the car and watched the girls in the water. First time they swam in mountain snow runoff I'm sure.
The view.
In the beach.

Dave and I have been up to Carter Lake several times - but always on bike.  This was our first time driving and camping there. It's about a 75 mile round trip.  Good fun.
Dave feeling crappy sitting in the sun on a rock.
Zoe and I got a close-up of ourselves in Dave's glasses.

Again - the view is to the west.
We got back to camp and cut open the watermelon. It was really good and quickly there was a seed spitting contest happening. Not sure who won since it was pretty much impossible to watch any seed fly through the air.

Consensus is that Dave and Zoe were about tied.

Zoe launches a winner.
We then spent some time working on our trip books. Mom incorporated an actual smashed ant on one of her pages.
Someone wants to do dishes!
Mom was getting caught up and even ahead on her presentation book.

Dave was in charge of dinner this night. We had turkey spaghetti with rolls. Good stuff.
There was some tree climbing. Zoe found out how sticky some conifers can be.
Some posing occurred
The next morning, we had eggie burritos and walked to the marina.  Zoe perfected her rock skipping technique.
Did not catch a photo of this skip
Dave got up and wandered over.
We hung out on the dock watching Zoe skip rocks
It was actually not too hot - it'd been in the mid-90s all week. Too hot. A cool front had come in and it was in the low 80s. With the thinner atmosphere, it felt warmer than that though.
Got a skip in action
The serious photos quickly....
went downhill...at least for some of us.
We spent a fair amount of time the entire time camping working on a cairn farm. The collection of cairns made an excellent table center-piece.
Balancing is tough!
One mom made.
We built a field of them too. Pretty cool.
Which way to go?
Cairns
More showed up later. Then during a particularly aggressive (and long) game of uno, some tumbled.
The was the most challenging rock. I managed to balance it on top of a small cairn. It pitched eventually. Then Dave got it on end again.
We found some beautiful crystals to incorporate. Plus, a piece of bread served as a nice based for another.
