07_28_2012 Jurassic Park Climbing - Near Estes Park
It seems that Dave has climbed everywhere. And he pretty much has - everywhere in the US and many places in the world. Every once in a while though, we find a spot he hasn't been. That's what today was all about. We drove toward Estes Park to a crag called Jurassic Park to climb. I have no idea why it's called that even after having been there.
We parked at the lake then started the steep but fairly short hike up to the walls. Oy, it was steep! My heart was still angry from the attempted bike ride the week before. I made it but I was slow. Sloooooowwww.
There is a classic arete at the top - that was our main objective. We got there as a party started up. We waited for them to finish and off Dave went.
Though rated 5.9, it was a tricky climb a the crux. Wouldn't want to blow it! Dave waltzed up it and I followed.
The weather was pretty iffy the entire time we climbed. Nothing like being a lightning rod on top of the climb. :)
We then did several other climbs around the corner. Fun stuff, but it all felt like sandbags to me.
We finally headed down - and just in time. We hiked out in the rain. It was a fun day!
