Dan and Michelle drove up from Boulder and joined us for the remainder of our time at the City. Great fun to see them and spend the time with them. LOTS of laughs and even tears. Some were from pain sadly. :(
Aside from climbing, we did some birding. We got to enjoy a nest of five baby Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers. Watched them as they were fed and went back one day to find they'd fledged. TINY little nest. Seems I have a photo somewhere in one of these COR blogs.
The bird that drew the greatest attention was "Harry the Harrier." A male Northern Harrier had a nest (ground nester) near a path. We found out the hard way as he went into attack mode. If you don't think a very angry bird with a 44" wing span can be scary - you are WRONG. He was pissed. Happily no bleeding from this event.
We enjoyed a full day of climbing. Then wandered to a nearby campground where some of our supertopo friends were staying. They were hosting a Pente Happy Hour! How fun is that? So, we got Pente all dressed up and off we went. We got to see some of our favorite tacos and meet some new ones. Pente was a little overwhelmed by all the folks and had to go home early. We hung out and really had fun though.
The next day we got in more climbing. Unfortunately Michelle got a rock in her eye and scraped the heck out of it. So, we left Dave and Dan behind to play and we drove to the local town (45 minutes) to the ER. Not the way you'd plan on spending a fourth of July, but so be it. Happily they were able to give Michelle some relief. But it meant a rest day for everyone as she healed.
It rained the next day so it wasn't so hard to sit and rest. No climbing to be had anyway.
Again, not much to add photo by photo, but just suffice it to say we really had a great time!
