We headed out early on Sunday morning to climb the first Flat Iron. I'd not been on it in four years!!Dave is nursing a nasty rib injury so easy stuff was in order.
It was a beautiful day. Seriously gorgeous. You can see the first Flatiron in the background. It is the large rock formation to the right.
So clearly blogspot continues to bite an dis not allowing me to put text where I want it. Grrrrr.
The hike is the worst part imo. And really it's no big deal. We crossed a talus field which gave a slightly closer view of the Flatiron.
We got to the base and Dave headed up. He brought me up the first two pitches then we simul-climbed to the top.
Can you believe how many big blocks sit atop this thing?
We enjoyed a nice lunch on top and never saw another person. That was surprising given the train of people heading up the thing!
We rapped off and hiked out. Ran into two snakes. One was fighting a squirrel. This was one nasty rattle snake! Think he eventually ate the squirrels babies. :(
Second one was nearby but also in a tree. Crazy.
