Dave found some time to work on his photos. He takes them in raw format so it is not the case that he can just give me a memory stick. So, here are some of the bird portraits from our recent Arizona tip.
Up fist, a pretty male Western Tanager.
The second bird is a Song Sparrow. Pretty!
Ah, a dreaded Flycatcher. Some of these are really difficult to ID, I think this one is an Ash-Throated flycatcher.
Male Bullock's Oriole. They are really fussy birds!
A Wilson's Warbler. Dave hadn't seen one before this trip. During our time in AZ, happily he had a chance to see several.
Male Black-Headed Grosbeak.
This is a White-Winged Dove. Ordinary, yes. Beautiful, yes.
A female Lazuli Bunting.
A Canyon Towhee. Looks a lot like a California Towhee, but their ranges do not overlap.
A pretty Scott's Oriole enjoys a jelly feeder put out at Mary Jo Ballator's home.
Another photo of the White Winged Dove. Pretty eyes, no?
Here a Gila Woodpecker enjoys a orange half out at Ballator's home.
Close up of the Gila Woodpecker.
Here is the male Lazuli Bunting.
A Mexican Jay. Like all Jays (and Corvids) these birds were noisy rascals. I really enjoy them.
Here is a pretty Lark Sparrow. Hey! Waittaminute! This photo is not from AZ. This is from our trip to Morongo with Steve and the kids.
This is a Savannah Sparrow. He was feeding on insects with a small flock of the Lark Sparrows. I've always found it ironic that Sparrows - thought of as so common - are really some of the most difficult bird ID challenges.
This Bridled Titmouse was seen in AZ at the Ramsey Canyon B&B. These birds may move more than warblers!
This particular bird kept Dave very busy in AZ. This Painted Redstart was in the B&B property many times a day. Nonetheless, he barely cooperated. Still I think the photo Dave ended up with is quite nice!
A Townsends Warbler. These were everywhere in AZ.
Beautiful Red Tailed Hawk.
