Time to hit a new climbing area. We ended up at Clark's Canyon near Mammoth.
As described on a Mammoth area rock climbing site: "Clark Canyon is the most developed sport-climbing crag in the Mammoth area. The routes are highly concentrated, with convenient anchors. The canyon is in a beautiful setting with views of Mt. Morrison and the surrounding peaks. The rock is very featured, with pockets galore. The routes tend to be short with cruxy bulges that must be passed."
Translating for the non-climber out there, this means (1) the routes are short. (2) each has an area requiring intensive foot smearing/pushing. (3) Crux areas almost universally were the first ten feet of the route. (4) the area is beautiful with awesome views. Taken together, I was a belayer again since I've not mastered the fine art of flight (ever for short distances).
Dave climbed many routes - and somehow I managed to get photos of only one. At least it was the route considered the BEST in the Canyon. He enjoyed it as well.
Not much else to note about the area. Dave had fun climbing, and it was a gorgeous day. Sounds like a deal to me.
