04_15 to 19_2015 LA Urban Birding Adventure aka Birdapalooza III

After Dave left Red Rocks, he drove into LA to hang out with friends Deb and Kenny. He did a little biking.
They live in Palos Los Verdes which is a really beautiful area. Great rides.

Then he went to the airport and picked me up. It was time for our annual LA Urban Birding Adventure, aka Birdapalooza III!

In attendance the first day were the die-hard birders, Dave Evans and Steve Powell. We started at the Trump Golf Course.
We walked and walked. Where were the birds? They weren't on the grass.
And they weren't down the trail heading to the beach.
We did see a few House Wrens, but mostly it was quiet.
We headed out then to Madrona Marsh (I'm probably forgetting the order of where we went).
We walked around there and did see some birds. Mostly it was quiet though.
The next day we headed to a new location that Dave Evans suggested in Orange County. It was terrific! Great birds. And we got to meeting Tony, another climbing birder. We had a great time here - lots of warblers.
We took a break for a great lunch.
Then charged forward...
We were hoping to find some owls, but they avoided us.
At yet another park, we saw some nesting birds (including a hummingbird) and enjoyed a variety of avian.
Day three, we hit a park right by the University of California Irvine. It was really a great place - and quite urban.
It had a lot of great habitat so we could see all sorts of birds.
I've spied some bird here.
Lunch break!
Matty and his girlfriend Olga joined us this day as well as Tony's wife Yvonne. It was a terrific crew.
The crew at Bolsa Chico. I'd long heard of this place so it was fun to actually finally get there.
There was a lot of area dedicated to nesting shore birds.
And signs. Like the information they provide. I forget it immediately though.
As you can tell, there is something to see in every direction!
We walked way out hoping to see an owl (got denied again.  I took this photo of Dave heading back to get some shots of the Terns on the bridge.
We eventually caught up with him at the bridge.

It was a fantastic trip - I look forward to next year's adventure. We'll see if we can get some  birders to come out to High Island for a TX version of our birding adventure!

04_01 to 14_2015 Red Rocks, then Joshua Tree with Rick A

Dave headed out west for another adventure. He stopped at Kolob Canyon en route for a hike. Beautiful area.
Kolob is essentially a part of Zion, but it seems disconnected. For more about it, go to here: http://www.utah.com/nationalparks/zion/kolob_canyons.htm

A pretty Wild Turkey hen was also out going for a hike the same day. Dave headed on - his first destination was Red Rocks in the Vegas area.
Red Rocks...though this part isn't very red is it?
Selfie!
Cactus
Dave stayed with our friends Dick and Natalie. They recently acquired a second dog. This little puppy was a dynamo of energy and quite entertaining I heard.
Some climbing. Honestly, as I wasn't there, it's hard for me to do these captions. Hopefully Dave will come back later and fill in with some substance. Is that Rick A up there?
The second coming up. Dave's foot?
Not sure who this is - I think Dave connected with someone online?
Successfully returning to the car.
Dave's victory shot for the day. :)
This is definitely Dave and Rick A....in Joshua Tree.
Not sure which Josh climb this is....
But this I know is Pinched Rib. Super fun route.
Looks like they are on top of a J-Tree formation
Racking up for the next adventure.

And Rick A pointing to the Space Station. I believe Rick hadn't been in the Space Station for 30 years or so!
Enjoying a brew in the Space Station. Or hopefully this isn't before going into the Space Station. Fall on that approach and it's going to leave a mark (like a smear mark on the ground).
