They live in Palos Los Verdes which is a really beautiful area. Great rides.
Selfie at the top of a ride.
Then he went to the airport and picked me up. It was time for our annual LA Urban Birding Adventure, aka Birdapalooza III!
In attendance the first day were the die-hard birders, Dave Evans and Steve Powell. We started at the Trump Golf Course.
We walked and walked. Where were the birds? They weren't on the grass.
And they weren't down the trail heading to the beach.
We did see a few House Wrens, but mostly it was quiet.
We headed out then to Madrona Marsh (I'm probably forgetting the order of where we went).
We walked around there and did see some birds. Mostly it was quiet though.
The next day we headed to a new location that Dave Evans suggested in Orange County. It was terrific! Great birds. And we got to meeting Tony, another climbing birder. We had a great time here - lots of warblers.
We took a break for a great lunch.
Then charged forward...
We were hoping to find some owls, but they avoided us.
At yet another park, we saw some nesting birds (including a hummingbird) and enjoyed a variety of avian.
Day three, we hit a park right by the University of California Irvine. It was really a great place - and quite urban.
It had a lot of great habitat so we could see all sorts of birds.
I've spied some bird here.
Lunch break!
Matty and his girlfriend Olga joined us this day as well as Tony's wife Yvonne. It was a terrific crew.
The crew at Bolsa Chico. I'd long heard of this place so it was fun to actually finally get there.
There was a lot of area dedicated to nesting shore birds.
And signs. Like the information they provide. I forget it immediately though.
As you can tell, there is something to see in every direction!
We walked way out hoping to see an owl (got denied again. I took this photo of Dave heading back to get some shots of the Terns on the bridge.
We eventually caught up with him at the bridge.
It was a fantastic trip - I look forward to next year's adventure. We'll see if we can get some birders to come out to High Island for a TX version of our birding adventure!
