June_21 to 27_2015_ BTC Day III, Carbondale to Hotchkiss, CO

Look at that - -  Well that is frustrating!! No matter what I do, this photo loads sideways. Turn your head to see this profile for the second day of riding from Carbondale to Hotchkiss - 65 miles including McClure Pass.
We tore down camp and head out together. Here I am doing the Monkey Flag Victory dance with the tent poles.
Dave before he rockets off.
And off we go. The big challenge of the day is McClure Pass. It's hardly a high pass (tops at 8,755'), but it's a hot day and that rascal is quite steep at the top.
On the way, we stopped for a few bits of sight seeing.
Pretty water falls
Not giant, but pretty nonetheless.
As the sign shows, these are Hays Creek Falls.
Off we go.
Here is the rest area at mile 23 for the day.
Here I come to the rest stop. The summit is only about 5 miles ahead.
We met  at the aid station for a photo.
Looks like the wind is blowing us over!
We got to the summit - I think this pass has quite a sting in its tail! It didn't help that it was boiling hot!
As close to a summit shot as you'll get....no fighting the crowds for me.
There it is - every riders favorite sign - the yellow sign showing the truck going downhill!
For part of the ride, we were stopped for a fair amount due to road construction.
Very hot on the asphalt!
An excellent sign in a bathroom. You know you are in Southern Colorado when...
And our campsite in Hotchkiss. It was under a tree which afforded a wee bit of shade. The shade was needed since it got to 102 that afternoon. It was hot!
Dave relaxing post ride.
Trying to stay cool...
We met up with Jeremy Werlin and Naomi Sikora for dinner at a local park that evening. Naomi made a delicious meal we enjoyed in a park. It was really great to see them.
They will be getting married August 9 - we are really hoping to get to that event!
Later, a micro-burst hit and took down some sizable limbs. The green tent you see in the background got squished and everyone rushed to get their tents out from under the trees!
