Time to head out for some more fun. This destination is Crested Butte where we will enjoy the wildflowers and Dave will get in some fun mountain bike riding. It was a nice drive out of town and we found a decent camp spot with quite a view.
Sadly, not many flowers were around. We thought we'd struck out. Dave took his bike out for a spin and shot some nice photos of the area we camped in. Then it was dinner time and off to bed.
The next morning, he was up early taking photos and headed out on a big mountain bike ride. At some point during it, he ran into a local who directed him over a couple of valleys - that is where the wild flower were he said. And he was right.
The photos Dave brought back were beautiful! Enough that we planned to get photos with the good camera the next morning. Dave got back from his ride tired - it was long and hard. At some points, the grade was 23% making it challenging to keep the front wheel on the ground. Sounded like he had some fun.
While riding, Dave noticed some unusual activity. Turned out we'd found yet another bike race! The Leadville 100 qualifiers were happening the next day (Sunday). A cool aspect of it was that Lance Armstrong was in it. Cool.
The next morning, we went and got some photos, though roads were blocked for the race. We parked to grab some breakfast and as luck would have it, it was where the racers were coming by. So, we managed to get some pretty cool photos of Lance and the others. Nice bonus, no?
Dave took off then and road some more fun trails, then we met up in town and enjoyed lunch. Then drove home. It was a fun weekend - relaxing for me, and exhausting (by choice) for Dave. And of course, Pente got in a lot of dirt rolling. She loves that!
There are honestly so many good photos of this trip (and these are just from the point and shoot!) it was difficult to chose some to post. The final one is Lance in the race. The rest are just a few of the gorgeous sites we saw in Crested Butte. Enjoy the photos.
