Though there is a mouse in the trailer and Pente has a great time chasing it, she seems more interested in clawing on the upholstery than upholding her mousing responsibilities. She clawed on the upholstery all night long. And I mean, All. Night. Long. GRrrrrrr.
This behavior kept us up much of the night. Having been deprived of my sleep (not a good thing), we implemented "Operation Cat Exhaustion" the next morning. This meant there was to be no sleep for Pente. She went for long walks, was put in tree-climbing situations, and generally not allowed to recline in any fashion for hours this morning. It was clear she was tired, but it was PLAY TIME FOR PENTE. Only when we left the trailer to head out did she get a moment to rest.
Today we hopped on the bikes to ride to Mammoth from the camp site. We rode a nice road north, then had about 6 miles of chip seal (not fun). Then we headed west into Mammoth. My foot was KILLING. We made it into town and I leaped off the bike and ripped off my shoe. I was done. We had a little snack at a local cafĂ©. It was here we saw something we’d not seen in a long time: the rare cigarette butt plant. This was one healthy growth of it too. Nice.
After our snack, Dave continued riding up to the top of Mammoth Mountain while I waited for him in town. When he returned, we headed back toward camp. Though not as nice as the June Lake loop ride, it was a nice ride nonetheless.
We got back to camp to find a tired kitty. We’d hoped this strategy would have allowed us a peaceful night of sleep while she hunted the mouse, but we were wrong. In the middle of the night, she was captured and banished to the bedroom where there was nothing for her to try to destroy.
